Top Ten Speedrunning Games on PC
If you’re looking for the top ten speedrunning games, you’ve come to the right place. Speedrunning, for those unfamiliar with the term, is where players race through a game as quickly as possible, utilising glitches and other tricks to shave off as much time as possible. In the case of some of these games, those tricks involve a lot of practice and patience.
Subway Surfers, the endless runner from developer Kiloo, comes in at number one on our list. Simplicity and addictive gameplay are two reasons this mobile game has become such a popular speedrunning title. Racing game Super Mario 64 takes the second spot on our list, which is a bit of a surprise to me, but as someone who has never even tried speedrunning it, I’m sure I’m not the target audience.
Minecraft: Java Edition comes in at number three, which makes sense given the game’s open-world nature, which allows for limitless speedrunning possibilities.
Super Mario Odyssey rounds off the top five, which seems about right given its popularity among the general gaming community.
Celeste, a pixel-art platformer that was one of the best games of last year, claims the sixth spot.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe secures the seventh position, which again makes sense as one of the best racing games of all time.
Portal comes in at number eight, which I can get behind as one of the best puzzle games of all time.
Getting Over It With Bennett Foddy takes the ninth spot, and I’ve never played it, but it looks hard as nails.
Racing game Super Metroid takes the tenth and final spot on the list, which again makes sense as one of the best Metroidvania games of all time.
This list comes to us courtesy of PC Game Spotlight, who have partnered with the NHTSA to highlight games that promote “safe driving habits.” Staying mindful behind the wheel is something we can all do a better job of, so if these popular speedrunning games can help, I’m all for it.
Each game on this list offers something unique in terms of challenges and strategies for speedrunners. Whether you’re a veteran speedrunner or just curious about these types of games, this list showcases a nice mix of classic and contemporary titles.
