The Sims 4 Wants and Fears

The Sims 4 introduces the game-changing feature of Wants and Fears, which are influenced by the actions and consequences in the game. Wants are urges and desires that your Sim develops throughout the day, influenced by various factors such as mood, relationships, and job performance. Fears are negative Traits that negatively impact your Sim’s life and trigger negative moodlets. Both Wants and Fears can be influenced by Traits and specific characteristics of your Sim, for example, vampires not being afraid of the dark.

We’ve spent a lot of time testing out The Sims 4 Wants and Fears system to see how it affects gameplay and mood. If you’re struggling to meet your Sims’ unattainable goals, you’ll want to refresh your Wants. Conversely, if you want to experience a Sim’s fears firsthand, you can toggle the ‘Show Wants & Fears’ button in the Settings menu. We’ve also included some of our favorite mods at the bottom of the guide if you want to modify the system in any way.

How to pin a Want

To prevent a Want from being refreshed, you can pin it by clicking the thumbtack icon.

How to refresh your Wants

If you’re not ready to face your Sims’ fears just yet, you can refresh your Wants by toggling the ‘Show Wants & Fears’ button in the Settings menu.

Neglecting to fulfill Wants can lead to your Sim developing a fear of unfulfilled dreams, which is one of the many The Sims 4 fears you can face in the game.

Sims can develop spiky-edged Wants, which can help them overcome their Fears. There are also certain Challenges that are referred to as spiky-edged Wants. Completing these Challenges will help your Sim get rid of negative moodlets and improve their day-to-day lives.
