Ready for Starfield?
AMD’s latest graphics drivers are designed to support Bethesda’s upcoming RPG and feature up to a 16% performance boost at 4K on RX 7900-series cards, so you should be all set for the intergalactic journey. The driver package also includes a bug fix for Baldur’s Gate 3, and AMD has partnered with Bethesda for Starfield’s release.
If you plan on playing Starfield on an AMD graphics card, you may have noticed that the company has partnered with Bethesda on the release, and you can even pick up a limited edition RX 7900 XTX with Starfield branding. However, don’t expect everything to run smoothly, as there may be intermittent driver timeout or visual corruption issues with certain ultrawide monitors.
In terms of the latest driver package, there’s nothing particularly exciting to report, as it doesn’t include Nvidia’s DLSS. However, AMD tells us that Bethesda can add DLSS support via a developer-facing tool in the future, so there’s a chance we will see it in the game.
In the meantime, AMD says that “AMD is working closely with Bethesda to enable future support for DLSS in Starfield when it is available,” but the company’s driver package doesn’t currently include it. Modders may also add DLSS support to Starfield independently, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
In terms of performance, you may want to consider using the Vulkan API for Baldur’s Gate 3 on AMD cards, as it’s proven to offer up the best performance.
