Red Dead Redemption 2 PC Port Pricing
Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port pricing is “commercially accurate,” according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. As a result, some players are calling the company out for what they perceive as a lack of effort. Others are willing to wait, but they want to see a price drop soon.
In a statement to The Take, the Rockstar parent company’s chief defends the Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port price, saying “it’s not fair” to compare it to a hypothetical “comparable remake from a first-party publisher.”
“The pricing for Red Dead Redemption 2: Remastered is commercially accurate,” Zelnick says. “We feel it’s important to explain that, because we’re sensitive to the fact that high prices can be a problem for consumers, and we don’t want to be perceived as exploitative.”
The CEO continues, “However, I’m very confident that once consumers see and experience the product, they will agree that it’s worth the price – and that the pricing is a reflection of the value that Rockstar is delivering.”
This response has rubbed some Red Dead Redemption 2 PC port buyers the wrong way, as they see it as a way to “justify” the high price. “Justification for the high price?” one person says. “Presumably, a justification for your bonus this year?”
Others call Zelnick “disrespectful,” while some sarcastically comment on the fact that the CEO “would like you to know” that the price is “commercially accurate.”
“Just bought a pre-owned Red Dead Redemption 1 disc for $2,” another user says, sharing a picture of the game on Xbox Series X with a 4K HDR label. “Played it on my Xbox Series X in 4K. I’m good.”
“Definitely going to wait for a price drop,” another says, “but I hope it doesn’t take too long.”
Some users discuss the Xbox vs. PlayStation vs. Switch debate, with one person saying, “Xbox has always been the most consumer-friendly.” Others recall playing Red Dead Redemption on the Xbox 360 and compare the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.
Finally, some users express frustration with the pricing of the Switch port, bringing up the “Switch tax” once again. “RDR2 PC costs $79.99 in Japan,” one person says. “We’re paying $99.99 in the US,” another replies, “and that’s not even taking into account the ‘Switch tax.’”
Others see the price as fair, and they suggest that anger should be directed at Nintendo instead of Rockstar and Take-Two. “I think the price is fair and people should direct their anger at Nintendo,” one user says. “This is a Nintendo port,” another replies.
“If you’re really pissed about the price, don’t buy it,” the first user says, advising against wasting money. “It’s not a remaster or remake,” they explain, “it’s a port.”
