The Steam Subreddit Supports the Reddit Blackout
The Steam subreddit, known for its focus on all things Valve's PC gaming platform, has redirected its attention to real steam and steam trains as part of a protest. In solidarity with the blackout against Reddit's harmful attitude towards its users, the Steam community, along with over 7,000 other subreddits, has gone dark.
The subreddit's moderators announced their temporary closure to show support for the blackout. Despite community manager Ashley Birch's clarification that the blackout was not a corporate-driven initiative, the Steam subreddit remains committed to standing alongside its user base in protest.
The moderators received a message from Reddit administrators stating that they must re-open or face removal. However, they remain steadfast in their decision to support their moderators, administrators, and user base. They are wary of providing Reddit with additional moderation tools that could be used against them. Users are encouraged to engage with the active Steam Discord and forums as replacement options.
Steam Next Fest: A Showcase of New Games
While the subreddit's focus has shifted momentarily, the real Steam platform is currently hosting Steam Next Fest. This event provides players with the opportunity to try out hundreds of newly announced games. Despite the protest, the Steam community remains passionate about Valve's PC gaming platform and is excited to explore the wide variety of games available at Next Fest.
