A Super Smash Bros. Modder Adds Tears of the Kingdom Link Variant

A Super Smash Bros. modder has added a variant of Link based on the new game Tears of the Kingdom to the fighting game's roster. The mod includes a variety of abilities inspired by the Zelda game, including the new base attack Ascend and the ability to fuse items.

The character version of Link in the Super Smash Bros. series undergoes changes with each new game. With the next Super Smash Bros. game potentially on the horizon, we’re bound to see another redesign. If it’s anything like Tears of the Kingdom Link, though, I might be on board.

The modder, who goes by Claude1308 on Twitter, is working on the mod and has shared a few clips showing off their progress. The first clip shows Link’s character model with some basic animations, while the second clip shows the modder adding Ascend, one of the abilities seen in Tears of the Kingdom.

Ascend serves as Link’s recovery move, allowing him to float in the air and shoot a lightning bolt at the nearest enemy once he’s reached the apex of the jump. The mod also includes a working version of Fuse, the second ability from Tears of the Kingdom, which allows Link to fuse items with his sword or arrows.

The modder has also released a short trailer showing off the mod’s features so far, including a few enhanced projectiles and the extended sword length that comes with the ability. It doesn’t appear to offer any buffs to any of Link’s moves, but that’s still a work in progress. A sneak peek can be found on Claude1308’s YouTube channel.

The modder has also used a few mods to include an Archaic Tunic mod to resemble a future official version of Link, as well as an armour mod to buff Link’s defence. The mod is still a work in progress, but it’s a fun teaser of what could be to come.
