As players progress through The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, they become entangled in the various problems faced by the people of Hyrule since the Upheaval. During this journey, several Sages awaken to aid in the mission to thwart Ganondorf.

However, while the Sages are present in Hyrule, they are not physically there. To locate them, players must venture into the skies of Hyrule. Along the way, they will stumble upon Sage's Wills hidden across the sky. A Sage's Will is a unique upgrade item that can be exchanged with a Goddess Statue. By trading in four Sage's Wills, players can strengthen their bond with an already awakened Sage, transforming their vow into a Solemn Vow and augmenting the Sage's attack power when summoning their avatar.
