Emile Morel, Creative Director of Beyond Good and Evil 2, Mourned by Gaming Community
The gaming community is in mourning as Ubisoft game designer Emile Morel, who served as the creative director of Beyond Good and Evil 2, has sadly passed away at the age of 40. Fellow colleagues from the game industry took to LinkedIn to share their grief and memories of working alongside this talented Ubisoft game designer.
Greg Hermittant, a producer at Ubisoft Montpellier, expressed his sorrow and admiration for Morel, stating, "Emile was a great and kind partner. I will always cherish our collaboration on numerous projects, both within and outside of Ubi. Rest in peace, Emile."
M. Gabreille Shrager, former narrative director of Beyond Good and Evil 2, also paid tribute to Morel, saying, "I will miss you, cherished colleague. We shared both good and bad times and shipped great games together. I wish you strength and courage, and I know you'll find the light."
Before joining Ubisoft in 2009, Morel had a successful career at Eden Games, where he contributed to titles such as Alone in the Dark and Test Drive Unlimited 2. His talents were further showcased in games like The Adventures of Tintin and Rayman Legends.
In February, Morel was promoted to the role of creative director on Beyond Good and Evil 2, following a studio reorganization at Ubisoft Montpellier. This reorganization came after a labor investigation into burnout and sick leave at the studio, which has been diligently working on the highly anticipated sequel for over 15 years.
Prior to this promotion, Morel served as the associate creative director on the project, under the leadership of director Philippe Teyssedre and chief creative officer Nathalie Joue-Vainchez. Joue-Vainchez stated, "Emile will be taking over the creative direction of the game," emphasizing the continuation of Morel's valuable work.
As of now, the cause of Morel's untimely death remains unknown, and inquiries have been made to Ubisoft for comment. This devastating loss deeply affects the gaming community, and our thoughts and condolences go out to Morel's family and friends during this difficult time.
