The next Mega Man game is in the works

Capcom has confirmed that the next installment in the Mega Man series is definitely in development, reassuring fans that they can expect a new game in the future. However, Capcom has also stated that fans will have to be patient, as the release is not expected to happen anytime soon.

Since the release of Mega Man 11 in 2018, fans have eagerly anticipated the next mainline entry in the series. Although there have been re-releases and mobile projects, it has been a while since a brand-new Mega Man game has been released, with Mega Man 10 being the last mainline entry back in 2010.

During a recent investor's call, Capcom addressed the future of the Mega Man series, particularly in light of the success of the Battle Network Legacy Collection. While Capcom acknowledges the desire for a new Mega Man game, the company emphasizes the importance of taking the time to develop a solid concept, ideas, and gameplay that will live up to the series' historical significance and dedicated fanbase.

Capcom's statement suggests that development on Mega Man 12 has not yet commenced, as the team is still exploring unique gameplay gimmicks and hooks for the game. It is possible that Capcom is keeping the game's development under wraps for a surprise announcement in the future. However, it is evident that fans will have to wait patiently for the release of the next Mega Man game.

Personally, I fully support Capcom's decision to take its time with the development of the next Mega Man game. The more care and attention put into the game, the better the final product will be. In recent years, the series has seen some great entries, and I believe that allowing Capcom the necessary time to create another exceptional game is worth the wait. In the meantime, it would be enjoyable to see more ports and HD re-releases of past Mega Man titles, similar to what Capcom has done with the Resident Evil series.

Capcom also acknowledges the desire for a new Mega Man game and has expressed its commitment to addressing technical issues in ports and re-releases, just as it did with the Resident Evil series. With Capcom recognizing the importance of the Mega Man series and the support of its fanbase, there is certainly a bright future ahead. Although the wait may be long, I am excited to see what Capcom has in store for the Blue Bomber.

In the meantime, fans can enjoy the existing Mega Man titles or take a trip down memory lane with the Battle Network Legacy Collection.
