Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 2 has a major choice involving Shadowheart and the Nightsong. Depending on what you do, Shadowheart either remains a follower of Shar or turns to Selune, and the Nightsong is either killed or freed. How to beat Balthazar in Baldur’s Gate 3
To get the best outcome, you need the Spear of Night, which you get from a quest in Act 1, and Umbral Crystals, which you get from killing Balthazar. You can either kill him outright, or you can use stealth to attack him before he can summon skeletons.
After defeating Balthazar, you have a choice. If he takes the Nightsong back to Thorm, Shadowheart will leave the group permanently. If you want her to stay, you need to get her to change her ways. There are Persuasion options with Shadowheart that make it seem like she’s considering changing, but they’re misleading. If you push too hard, you get negative consequences.
Respecting her initial decision and keeping her talking can lead to the opportunity to turn her back to the light. If you choose to kill the Nightsong with Shadowheart, there are negative consequences for the people at the Last Light Inn, but there’s no way to avoid that. If you let the Nightsong go, it breaks Thorm’s immortality and earns you a powerful ally.
