Blighted Village walkthrough
Want to know what happens in the Blighted Village in the new Baldur’s Gate game? It’s one of the first challenging combat encounters you’ll face in the RPG game, as the village is overrun with Goblins, worgs, bugbears, and ogres.
You can side with the Goblins and help them take over the village, or convince them to leave. Alternatively, you can clear the town of enemies. We’ll walk you through both options in this walkthrough, as well as the unique locations you’ll encounter in the Blighted Village, such as the Whispering Depths and the Storeroom. While there are no prerequisites to reaching the Blighted Village, you can skip other areas if you wish.
You’ll first encounter the Blighted Village outside the gates, where a group of Goblins and a white dog named Scratch are standing. You can choose to side with the Goblins or convince them not to attack.
There are several ways to convince the Goblins not to attack, including successful rolls and peaceful entry. If you fail to convince the Goblins not to attack, you’ll have to fight five Goblin enemies.
To convince the Goblins not to attack, do the following:
If you have a Drow character, you’ll be asked to convince the Goblins not to attack using the Whisper spell.
To reach the roofs and defeat the Goblins, use your ranged attacks (if you have them) to take down the enemies.
If you have a non-Drow character, Lump the Enlightened and two Ogres are in a home across town. You can fight them or convince them to join you.
You can freely explore the village once you’ve cleared the enemies. In the northwest corner of town, you’ll find the Whispering Depths, which you can explore if you have a character that can cast the Levitate spell. Otherwise, you can investigate the Well to find the rope needed to descend into the Whispering Depths dungeon.
The Storeroom can be found across the road from the Well. The Storeroom contains two chests, one trapped and the other locked. There’s also a breakable stone wall on the upper floor that leads to a small section of the Whispering Depths. You’ll need to return here after exploring the dungeon.
The Barn outside town contains two people inside, triggering unique dialogue with Astarion and Shadowheart. Opening the barn door reveals enemies that must be defeated.
The house left of the main gate contains a secret basement with the Necromancer’s Book of Thay. Find the hidden switch in the basement to unlock a passage leading to a talking mirror. Choose the correct answers to gain access to a secret lab with the key to the Book of Thay and the book itself.
