The Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition is being scalped for over $2,000 on eBay, with some listings going for as high as $2,000, and they include the game. The exorbitant prices highlight the prevalence of scalpers in the gaming industry, as well as how easy it is to exploit fan excitement for a new release.
In the UK, two listings without digital content are priced around £950, with bids exceeding £1,000. The Collector's Edition includes various items like a game copy, sticker sheet, battle diorama, art book, and more.
You would think that the digital codes included would be a deterrent for scalpers, as they would be unable to redeem them, but it seems that many have either kept the digital codes or sold them separately. It's also possible that the scalpers are purchasing the physical Collector's Editions and selling them at a markup, but this is harder to police.
The most expensive sale on US eBay is a PlayStation version priced at $1,975, excluding shipping. The same retailer has sold seven copies, with prices ranging from $500 to $640.
This isn't the only place you can find scalpers, as the digital collector's edition dice skin is being sold for up to $299. The dice skin is digital, so it's unclear how the seller is able to charge so much, but it highlights the problem nonetheless.
If you want to get your hands on the Baldur's Gate 3 Collector's Edition, make sure you don't fall for any of these traps.
