Half-Orc Character Tips for Baldur's Gate 3

If you are making a half-orc character in Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re going to want to focus on two things: combat effectiveness and survivability. The half-orc race has plenty to offer both of these areas, and there’s plenty of ways to optimise your character to make the most of it.

Your biggest survivability tool as a half-orc in BG3 is the character’s Relentless Endurance ability. This allows you to drop to zero hit points, but not die outright. This can be a huge boon if you’re in the middle of a fight and need a few moments to heal up and regroup, or if you’re looking for an easy way to cheese your way through certain areas. We recommend saving this for crucial moments in combat, but if you find yourself getting into trouble in a dungeon, you can always use it to your advantage.

As for the rest of your character, you’re going to have a proficiency in Intimidation, which is great for evil characters, or if you just want to avoid combat. However, avoid choosing a class or background with overlapping proficiency in this, since you’ll never get to use it. You also get critical strikes, which deal triple damage. While this can make them lethal in their own right, they also make it easier to get critical hits, so consider choosing the Great Weapon Master feat to get additional attacks after a critical hit.

As far as classes go, barbarians are a good choice, combining high health and damage output to make you a force to be reckoned with. Fighters are also a strong option thanks to the Second Wind ability and your choice of fighting style. Paladins are a solid choice thanks to some nice healing abilities and smite spells that enhance your damage output. You can also use a number of different feats to enhance your combat effectiveness, with Savage Attacker letting you reroll damage dice for better damage output, and Tough increasing your overall health, making you a bit more durable overall.

Those are our tips for making a powerful half-orc in Baldur’s Gate 3. Check out our full guide for more in-depth information on your options, along with some strategies on how to use your character effectively.
