Baldur's Gate 3 coming to Xbox Series X and Series S
Baldur’s Gate 3 is coming to Xbox Series X and Series S, despite some fan concern over potential delays and even the possibility of the Series S version being omitted. “Not a single person is going to be left out,” Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke confirms, as the RPG game’s launch on PS5 is just weeks away.
“We’re talking to Microsoft now, and it’s going to happen,” Vincke says, responding to a fan on Twitter. “There will be a version for the Xbox Series S.”
Vincke says Larian Studios met with Phil Spencer at Gamescom, resolving the issue. “The deal is, we can’t call it Baldur’s Gate 3 for Xbox, but the deal is done.” Spencer made an exception for Larian because of just how popular the game is, Vincke says.
I can understand the disappointment over the absence of couch co-op, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me. Baldur’s Gate 3 is best played solo, and playing with a friend can be awkward during certain scenes, so I’m not missing out on too much.
The affordable Series S console often takes a backseat to its more powerful counterparts, but developers have to make concessions to make their games playable on the less capable device. With Microsoft’s shift to a more games-focused strategy, and a greater emphasis on first-party titles, the future may see more concessions.
For now, though, Baldur’s Gate 3 is worth the sacrifice, and Larian Studios and Phil Spencer have resolved their issues. The game looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to play it on my Xbox.
