Baldur's Gate 3 is an unexpected trip down memory lane for me, as I compare it to beloved RPG classics like Oblivion, Dragon Age, and more.

Baldur's Gate 3

Baldur’s Gate 3 is finally here, and it’s bringing back some serious memories for me. Some people are mistaking it for an Oblivion mod or Dragon Age Origins 2, while others are being a bit more humorous and suggesting it’s a Wizard101 crossover or a fake “A-cat.” No matter what, there’s a lot of excitement surrounding the upcoming RPG game, and I can’t help but join in on the fun.

Many people are reminiscing about the original Baldur’s Gate series, as well as every D&D game ever. Some are pointing out that the upcoming game just came out in 2006, so it’s not exactly a “new” game. Personally, I was a young adult back in the early 2000s, and I used to play Oblivion and Dragon Age all the time. Of course, I’d love to have a party in Oblivion, complete with M’aiq the Liar and the Grey Fox.

“Why is everyone saying this is a modded Oblivion or NWN?” one user asks. “I want a mod like this for a CRPG,” another replies. “Oblivion in 2019, the way it should be.” “A nice Oblivion homage,” someone comments, and someone replies, “Oblivion homage? It’s Oblivion.”

“I like these spells,” someone else says, and someone replies, “Discount spell,” followed by an Oblivion quote, “I’m not buying a discount spell. That is just a bad idea.”

I’m not sure what’s funnier, the confusion about the game’s origins or the nostalgia for the original game. I guess both are pretty equal, and the overall sentiment is excitement and fondness for the Baldur’s Gate series.

If you’re curious about the Oblivion mod mentioned above, here’s a link to it. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend it. On second thought, why don’t I just shut up?
