Baldur’s Gate 3 is driving up Karlach MTG card prices, as players scramble to collect the playable demon for their decks in the fantasy RPG game. According to data from Karlach’s owner, Wizards of the Coast, the price of the Baldur’s Gate 3 card has risen significantly in the past year, with a huge price spike coinciding with the final launch of the Dungeons & Dragons game.

Karlach, Fury of Avernus

Karlach, Fury of Avernus is a recently-released legendary demon card for Wizards of the Coast’s popular tabletop game, Magic: The Gathering. While the card’s stats aren’t especially impressive, it’s become a highly sought-after card due to its gameplay value.

However, it looks like Karlach’s fame has spilled over from the digital realm, and into the world of MTG. According to data from MagicCardMarket, Karlach’s price has skyrocketed in recent months, with the card costing around $2 a year ago, and now setting players back around $5.90.

The huge price spike coincides with the release of Baldur’s Gate 3: Hellride, leading Wizards of the Coast to suggest that the popularity of the RPG game is causing the increase.

“Interest in Karlach has been steadily rising over the past few months coinciding with the launch of the final DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3,” a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson says. “The card is now one of the most expensive in the set and has been the driving force behind recent price spikes.”

While Karlach’s gameplay value certainly plays a part in the card’s increased demand, it looks like the demon’s newfound fame from Baldur’s Gate 3 is largely responsible for the price spike.

While Karlach’s price has been steadily rising for the past year, there’s no sign of it slowing down just yet, so it looks like simping will continue to be a strong deck for MTG players for the foreseeable future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is set to launch on PlayStation 5, opening up the D&D game to a whole new audience. An Xbox release isn’t out of the question either, so if you’ve been waiting to play the game on console, now’s the time to start building your Karlach deck.
