Baldur's Gate 3
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the highest-rated game in 2023, but the RPG could potentially lose its throne to Starfield. Many users express skepticism that the Bethesda RPG will surpass the latest entry in the Dungeons & Dragons series based on its launch, with some joking about Todd Howard’s reputation and others suggesting its delayed release could hurt its Game of the Year chances.
Despite widespread reports of bugs and issues, some defend Starfield, citing Microsoft’s leadership and pointing to the game’s lengthy development cycle. Others joke about Bethesda’s track record, suggesting that bugs and glitches provide some measure of entertainment value and boosting the game’s scores.
“It’s too early to say that Starfield will be the highest-rated game of the year,” one user says. “There are still many great games to be released this year; Armored Core 6 could be the perfect Game of the Year.” Others express doubts about Armored Core 6’s success given its departure from the Souls series.
“I just don’t think people are gonna be as hyped for a Souls-like game without any penis customization,” one user replies. “Mechs make everything better,” another user adds.
A few other users acknowledge that Starfield has a lot of hype, but they’re concerned that the game might disappoint if it isn’t smooth and fully functional at launch. “I just hope it’s a complete game, unlike Fallout 4,” one user says.
“People are just hyping Starfield because they are fans,” another user replies. “It’s just hype drowning out reflection on Bethesda’s past issues.”
“Bethesda’s past games were amazing and flawless,” another user responds. “Fallout 3 was the best game of the generation, Skyrim was flawless, and Fallout 4 was flawless.”
Some users post about the potential for Starfield’s user score on Metacritic to be lowered by fanboys, with others defending Bethesda’s past games. One user claims that “Baldur’s Gate 3 is the real Game of the Year, surpassing Tears of the Tendie,” while another says they’re just happy that Baldur’s Gate 3 had a great launch.
