Feeding Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3

Want to know if you can feed your Baldur’s Gate 3 companion? The hungry wizard Gale is known to munch on magical items, with a particular penchant for those created by the most powerful Wizards. So, what does he want to eat?

Baldur’s Gate 3 has a lot of characters to meet, and it can be easy to forget a minor quest or two in one of the best PC games. One such quest involves feeding your party member, the hungry wizard Gale, and we’re here to help you ensure that he remains well-fed so that he remains in a good mood.

How to feed Gale in Baldur’s Gate 3

You can feed Gale any magical item, but only those that are not blessed by a deity or too large to consume. If the item description says “Gale can absorb this item’s magic, destroying it” then he can eat it. As the game will automatically display the permissible options for donation in the window itself, you don’t need to hunt for specific items with this in mind.

Artifacts like the Staff of Crones are no longer consumable by Gale, so pay attention to item descriptions. You can only give items to Gale when he prompts you to ask for one, indicated by an exclamation mark over his head. Keep the items in your inventory until Gale asks for them, and then donate them to him.

You can donate items to Gale even if they are in someone else’s inventory, but they must be items that you own. Giving any magical item to Gale will permanently destroy it, regardless of its type or rarity. You need to give at least three magical items in Act One to progress Gale’s quest line, with diminishing effectiveness each time.

So, you don’t want to see Gale upset, do you? Well, no one likes an unhappy Wizard, especially if they know how to cast Fireball. Keep at least three useless magic items with you to keep Gale fed and happy on your journey. You won’t need them, and they’ll serve a purpose. We hope.
