Baldur's Gate 3: Embracing the Darkness
You've probably played through the new Baldur’s Gate 3 and thought "this is great, but what if I embraced the darkness? What’s the worst that could happen?" Well, if you want to really find out, there’s a player out there who’s been documenting their attempt to get every character the worst possible ending, and it’s even more twisted than you might expect.
IGN shared the player’s journey on the game’s subreddit, and the detailed guide takes you through every step needed to ensure everyone has a terrible time. Death is, of course, a common bad ending, but there are fates worse than death.
For some characters, keeping them alive is crucial for your torment, but that’s not always as straightforward as letting them win fights. You’ll also need to get involved in some good old-fashioned murder and murder by proxy. In some cases, you won’t want them to die, but instead see their hopes and dreams utterly crushed.
Two characters are actually spared from your wrath: Scratch, the cat who joins the party right at the start, and the Owlbear. Scratch joins knowing he’ll get a happy ending, so he’s safe, but the Owlbear… Well, the player explains, “I just couldn’t bring myself to murder the poor thing.” I guess that’s one thing they can teach you in Baldur’s Gate 3, mercy.
Again, this guide contains heavy story spoilers, so if you want to go into your next playthrough fresh, bookmark this thread and come back to it once you’ve finished. It might make for a fun second playthrough, or you could give one of the many Baldur’s Gate 3 companions that come with their own Dark Urge character builds a try to fully immerse yourself.
