Baldur's Gate 3 players want a party select screen and expanded party size
Baldur’s Gate 3 players are requesting a party select screen to make changing companions easier, and expanding the party size beyond four is also on the wishlist. If you’re like me and have spent hours in the D&D game trawling through the menus in both the original and sequel, then you’ll know how cumbersome party management can be. In the case of the sequels, there’s no party select screen to make switching companions in your party easy, and the lack of an automatic inventory transfer between party members further complicates things.
The lack of clarity around party management is something that’s come up in my own Baldur’s Gate 3 review, and I’m not alone. Since the launch of the RPG game, fans have been asking for better party and inventory management, and some are even reluctant to switch party members because of their emotional reactions to the characters.
The fan response to the lack of a party select screen has been overwhelming, with a mock-up posted on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit gaining over 1,000 upvotes in a single day. Players believe this feature would make the party experience more intuitive and user-friendly, especially given the RPG game’s heavy focus on the party.
“I’m hoping that this will be one of the first things they fix when the game comes out,” one fan writes. “The party is such a big part of the game, and having to go back to the main camp to switch people around every time you want to change your party setup is annoying.”
Some players even admitted to being reluctant to switch party members because of their emotional reactions to the characters, which is why they think a party select menu would be appealing.
“I really don’t want to change my party because of how attached I am to the characters,” another comment reads. “A party menu would give me more options without having to change my party members.”
Better party and inventory management are considered significant quality of life improvements, and many fans also wish to see the party size expanded beyond four, as in Dungeons & Dragons games. Right now, modding is the only way to achieve this, but it poses balance issues in the game due to the extra party members.
“I’m willing to accept some trade-offs,” another fan writes. “I’m willing to take tougher fights, or even less XP, if I can just have the option to have a larger party.”
The request for a party select screen and expanded party size is currently trending among Baldur’s Gate 3 players, but it remains to be seen if it will be implemented in the upcoming RPG game. Check out our full Baldur’s Gate 3 review for our take on the latest D&D game.
