Looking for the best Baldur’s Gate 3 multiclass builds?
Multiclassing allows you to combine two or more classes to create hybrid characters that are a cut above the rest. However, balancing the investment in each class is key to avoiding a watered-down character. Our guide explains the basic rules and best practices for multiclassing in the new RPG, alongside a collection of multiclass builds and ideas to get you started.
The level cap in Baldur’s Gate 3 is 12, and multiclassing can potentially delay or restrict access to some of the game’s best abilities. Fortunately, many of the game’s best abilities can be used by multiclass characters, with some caveats. In particular, you should always consider what subclass you’re taking for your second class, as this can have a huge impact on your character’s overall power level. For example, if you’re taking Paladin, consider taking either the Oath of Vengeance or Oathbreaker subclass, rather than the default Oath of Protection or Life.
Baldur’s Gate 3 multiclass builds
Here are some of the best multiclass builds we’ve found in our testing:
The Paladin 2 / Sorcerer 10 build
This build is arguably the best multiclass build right now and is highly regarded due to the synergy between these two classes. Paladins get some of the best defensive and self-sustaining abilities in the game, while Sorcerers get powerful offensive spells to decimate enemies.
This build is better if you go with the Oathbreaker subclasses for both classes, taking the Draconic Bloodline for the Sorcerer and the Oath of Vengeance for Paladin. This maximises your spell power and the power of your Sorcerer abilities like Dragonfire Blast. To get the best of both worlds, have at least 14 Wisdom and take the following Sorcerer subclasses: Draconic Bloodline and Wild Magic.
The Fighter 2 / Wizard 10 build
This build is one of the best multiclass builds for many classes, particularly spellcasters, due to the synergy between these two classes. Wizards lack in melee combat, but Fighters can provide some much-needed support, while also providing the wizard with early access to the extremely useful Action Surge ability.
If you’re looking to enhance this build, consider having at least 14 Intelligence so you can cast spells like Fireball and Lightning Bolt. Having additional spell slots is also beneficial, so consider taking the Archmage or Tempest Domain subclasses. For a Tempest Domain Cleric 2 / Storm Sorcerer 10 build, take the following subclasses: Archmage and Tempest, or Storm and Wild Magic.
The Gloom Stalker Ranger 7 / Assassin Rogue 3 / Fighter 2 build
This build is an excellent stealth-based, high-damage ambusher. Thanks to the Assassin Rogue subclass, you get Uncanny Dodge which, when combined with Evasion, grants you a high level of survivability against single-target attacks like a dragon’s bite or a stab from a dagger.
This build works best with dual finesse melee weapons like short swords, or a ranged weapon like a Longbow. We recommend rushing level 5 Ranger for Extra Attack, then proceeding with the Assassin Rogue and Fighter subclasses.
The Tempest Domain Cleric 2 / Storm Sorcerer 10 build
This build is lightning-themed and extremely powerful for a single-classed character. The main perks of this build are the increased survivability from the Sorcerer subclass, and the incredible damage output from the Storm Sorcerer subclass.
Given that the Sorcerer’s spellcasting ability is tied to Intelligence and the Cleric’s spellcasting ability is tied to Wisdom, you may need to prioritise your stats a little to make this build work. In particular, we recommend having at least 14 Wisdom, otherwise you won’t be able to cast many spells from the Storm or Lightning Spell Tree.
The Fighter 1 / Wizard 11 build
This build is for those who don’t want to go down the multiclass route and instead want to maximise their single class. This build sacrifices pure spell power for increased survivability and versatility. You can still cast offensive spells like Fireball and Ice Storm to deal some damage, while also gaining access to powerful utility spells like Telekinesis, Polymorph, and Wall of Force.
