Baldur’s Gate 3 mindflayer parasite locations
Wondering where to find all the Baldur’s Gate 3 mindflayer parasite specimens? Mindflayer parasites are a new power that you can harness in the upcoming RPG game. In order to learn this skill, you must consume Mind Flayer Parasite Specimens, which aren’t as easy to come by as you might expect.
These mind-controlling parasites aren’t all bad, though, as they allow you to speak to and recruit the Flinds and Goblins in the world. Here’s where to find all of the mindflayer parasite specimens in the open-world game.
Emerald Grove
The Emerald Grove is home to the Enclave Library, where you meet Father Eadric. Travel west of the Emerald Grove to find some cultists standing near a cage holding a mindflayer. They attack you on sight, so take them out and loot their bodies for the first Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen.
Shattered Sanctum
Travel north until you reach the Shattered Sanctum. You’ll notice a group of cultists and goblins gathered around a fire. To the east, you’ll find a cave with a Flind warlord infected with a tadpole. Defeat the Flinds and the tadpole, and loot the Flind warlord’s body for the second Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen.
Goblin Camp
Goblin Camp is the home of Priestess Gut, Dror Ragzlin, and Minthara. Each of these characters holds a specimen. You can either choose to side with each of them and acquire their specimen, or you can betray them and kill them to receive the item.
Risen Road
The Risen Road is home to the Flinds who attempted to capture you earlier. Near the entrance to the cave, you’ll find a Flind named Yeebok, who is infected with a tadpole. Kill him and loot his corpse for the third Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen.
Underdark
The Underdark contains a duergar outpost named Grymforge. Head inside and speak to True Soul Nere. He’s being held captive by the duergar, but you can save him by pressing on the rock wall near him. He’ll be reluctant to leave without his precious item, the Gift of the Absolute. Head outside and speak to one of the duergar to learn about Nere’s item. Return to the Underdark and kill the duergar to retrieve the Gift of the Absolute. Return to Nere and give him the item to receive another Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen.
You can also side with Nere during an encounter with the duergar. However, doing so causes the slaves to revolt and attack the duergar. While you can loot the corpses of the duergar for a Mind Flayer Parasite Specimen, killing the slaves during this encounter results in them dying, which affects future quests. In addition, you’ll never learn about an important NPC named Wulbren. For this reason, it’s best to side with the duergar.
That’s where to find mindflayer parasite specimens in Baldur’s Gate 3. Betraying and killing Nere does reward you with an additional specimen, but we recommend saving him for the sake of future quests. Killing the slaves during the duergar encounter affects Wulbren’s quest and prevents you from learning about him, as well as the duergar’s plans for the city of Baldur’s Gate. Once you’ve made your choice, it’s best to consider it final.
