Baldur's Gate 3: Recruit or Fight the Ogres in the Blighted Village
Want to know how to recruit or fight the ogres in the Blighted Village? There’s a group of ogres in the village that you can either try to persuade to aid you, or simply fight. If you succeed in bringing them on board, you’ll get some free aid in a difficult fight. It’s not all plain sailing though, as you’ll need to fork over 1,000 gold for their services.
If you do manage to convince them to help you, you’ll get a horn that you can use to call them into combat. It’s a nice perk, but you might be better off fighting the ogres in Baldur’s Gate 3. This is due to the fact that they’re extremely strong and can knock you out with a single hit. Plus, you can pick up a nice headpiece upon their defeat, so it’s definitely worth exploring that route.
How to Recruit the Blighted Village Ogres
To recruit the ogres in the Blighted Village, you’ll either need to succeed at a persuasion check or deceive them. If you fail, they’ll attack, so make sure to save first. If you’re successful, you’ll pay 1,000 gold and receive a horn that you can use to call the ogres into combat.
Once you’ve recruited the ogres, you’ll have a new fast travel location, ‘Blighted Village’, which will take you to their location.
How to Fight the Ogres in the Blighted Village
If you decide to fight the ogres, it’s highly advised to use the roof and rafters as your main advantage. You can climb up to the rafters via the ladder in Baldur’s Gate 3’s tavern, Chipped Horn. Once you’re up there, you can position your ranged characters on the rafters, while your non-ranged characters guard the main door.
If any of the ogres try to climb up to you, you can strike the support beam beneath the rafters, which should cause extra damage. Melee combat is generally not advised, as the ogres are extremely strong, and you could easily be knocked out with a single hit. So, use ranged attacks, and take cover behind the outer walls for extra protection.
You’ll also be attacked by barrels that the ogres throw. It’s best to avoid being near any edges, as they could potentially knock you off. Other than that, this fight is no different to any other, so use your usual strategies.
Once you’ve beaten the ogres in the Blighted Village, you’ll be able to loot their bodies for some great rewards, including the Ogre Headpiece. You’ll also notice a goblin patrolling the outer streets of the village, but don’t worry, it won’t pose a threat to you. The goblin has no ranged attacks, so it’ll have to climb a ladder to reach you. As long as you’ve positioned your ranged characters on the rafters, you should be able to defeat the goblin fairly easily.
And that’s how to recruit or fight the Blighted Village ogres in Baldur’s Gate 3. If you decide to fight them, you’ll want to make sure you’ve got the best strategic positioning. We also highly recommend using ranged attacks, as the ogres are extremely strong, and you could easily be knocked out with a single hit. If you do decide to recruit them, you’ll need a convincing lie, or a high persuasion skill, but it’s totally worth it for the Ogre Headpiece that you can get.
