Want to know how to side with Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3?

The opening hours of the RPG game are full of difficult decisions, and one of the first is whether to align with Nere, a powerful ally, or oppose her.

Baldur’s Gate 3 introduces Nere in the Underdark

You can find Nere during Act One, after entering the Underdark. After defeating the first wave of deep gnomes, a cutscene plays and Nere appears, heading towards a group of slaves.

Nere has captured the slaves to use as leverage, holding their heads over a poison cloud. If you don’t free them quickly, they will suffocate. You can still side with Brithvar and eliminate the deep gnomes, though, so Nere doesn’t escape.

How to side with Nere

To side with Nere, you need to free Grymforge from rubble, eliminating the deep gnomes, and turn on Brithvar’s rebellion.

Nere will kill Brithvar’s followers, but the leader himself can still escape. If you want to kill him for good, you can do so by either siding with the duergar or killing them both.

How to side against Nere

To side against Nere, you need to rescue Brithvar’s followers and eliminate the deep gnomes. Afterwards, you can kill Nere or spare her life.

If you spare Nere’s life, she sends you to Moonrise Towers to find the General. However, her Moonlantern is broken, and she’s unable to light the way. She gives you the lyre she used to communicate with her hidden allies in the cursed lands.

Siding against Nere is the only way to save the deep gnomes, but you still need to part ways with her. If you haven’t claimed all the gold in the area, you can always claim it from her corpse during the fight, though she’s quite the difficult opponent.

Nere’s Moonlantern can’t be repaired, but she does give you a lyre to use for the remainder of the game. It would be a good idea to check in with the Myconid colony to save Nere’s head and return it to her.

If you saved the deep gnomes, you can speak to Thulla and the other survivors before entering Act Two.

That’s everything you need to know about Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3. Siding with Nere or Brithvar is recommended over fighting both sides, unless you’re looking for a difficult challenge. Aligning with Nere benefits evil-aligned characters or those looking to infiltrate the cult of the Absolute. Siding against Nere or Brithvar is the best choice if you want to save the deep gnomes.
