Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has seemingly leaked through a Monster Energy promotion, revealing the game’s name, branding, and the return of Captain Price. The official promotion offers the game a skin, and it lasts from September 1 to December 31. The only catch is that you have to drink the energy drinks to get the code that reveals the game.
The official promotion, from Monster, offers the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 skin as part of a line of “gaming gear” that you can redeem with codes found on the company’s energy drinks. The code on the box reveals the game’s name and branding, as well as Captain Price, who seems to be back for another round.
Activision hasn’t responded to the leak on its official channels yet, but the developers of the game have joined in on the fun. The official Call of Duty account makes a cheeky comment about energy drinks.
The account then updates its Twitter header with three red lines, which is a wink and a nod to the three lines on the Monster Energy logos.
We also get a bit of a tease from Sledgehammer Games, which says, “Everything you need to know about the next Call of Duty is just a few clicks away.” This is likely a reference to the QR code on the Monster Energy box, which leads to the Monster Energy website.
While this is fun and lighthearted, we do know quite a bit about what to expect from the game. Earlier this year, an official Activision shareholder report hinted at a “full annual premium release” in the series for 2023. This suggests that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be a direct follow-on to MW2.
We also know that the official announcement for the game is still pending. While there was speculation that the game might be revealed this summer, it’s looking like the game will be announced later in the year.
While there’s some speculation that the game might be revealed at Gamescom in August, there’s a good chance the reveal will land on the same date as the previous Modern Warfare games, which was September 1.
