Destiny 2: Lightfall

Want to know what to expect from the next Destiny 2 expansion? Lightfall will cap off the Light and Darkness saga and bring the story full-circle as the Vanguard finally confronts Emperor Calus.

Fighting against the Darkness has never been so difficult and will require the help of Savathun, the Witch Queen and sister to Emissary Xivu. The Queen has been playing her hand from the shadows this entire time and has set her plan in motion. Defeating the Emperor will put an end to the Witness’ plan, saving the Traveler – but at what cost?

With the Lightfall release date, you have more time to prepare for the battle ahead with new activities and collectibles. Here are all the guides and resources you’ll need to succeed in Lightfall.

Lightfall Release Date

Lightfall officially released on Friday, May 8.

The release date is significant as it’s the second Solstice of Destiny 2 season 5, meaning Guardians will earn double XP all week as well as Legendary Nightfall, and a new Exotic to chase.

Lightfall Trailer

Lightfall’s launch trailer shows the Vanguard arriving on Titan to disrupt Xivu Arath’s plans and stop the Witness, regardless of the cost. In the Witch Queen expansion Guardians learned of the Darkness’ ultimate goal: to harvest the Light of the Traveler. Lightfall puts a stop to the Emperor’s plan and saves the Traveler.

The video also teases players with glimpses of new armor class sets, including Strand and the Strider subclass, and some fresh weapons Guardians have to chase.

Lightfall New Activities

Defiant Battlegrounds features as part of Season of Defiance, offering a whole new experience by utilising multi-stage battlefields. Defend The Rig, a snow-covered factory-esque mini-map with open spaces, and Destiny 2’s version of Control.

In the Shadows will have Guardians battling to keep the Darkness at bay on Earth. This is a multi-layered activity that uses the combat and movement mechanics introduced in Strand to shoot and move through different points on Earth to push back the Darkness. You’ll also get to see multiple planets in their natural state and how they appear after being taken over by the Darkness.

During the campaign, players will visit Neptune. Explore the oceanic planet to uncover secrets. Each destination comes with a new world map filled with new activities and stuff to do.

Lightfall New Collectibles and Exotics

Neomuna is a massive, dense city filled with hidden treasures. Legendary Treasure Moons, Ghost Shells, and a Destiny 2 Exotic are just some of what’s to be discovered. Guardians will also be looking for the Strand Exotic to chase.

Lightfall New Weapons

The Crucible gets three new weapons to chase in Lightfall. The Doubleshot, Agent of Mantis and Untamed are new weapon types offering more ways to play and bring versatile weapons back to the PvP meta.

Strand is Destiny 2’s first subclass built around manipulating the fabric of reality to counter and outplay enemies. Strand’s Striders use these unearthly powers to alter enemies and Guardians as well as the battlefield itself. Buildcrafting resources help players create the perfect Guardian build for every Strand subclass.

Lightfall Subclasses

Strand is available as part of Lightfall subclasses 3.0. The sandbox update not only brings the new Strand subclass but also reworks some of the game’s most popular subclasses. The subclasses you know and love have been overhauled to add more customization and tools for Guardians to use. The Warlock class also got a tweak with the addition of the Warlock’s first new subclass since season of the Witch Queen: the Attunist.
