Destiny 2: Shifting to Standalone Episodes

The Destiny 2 universe is set to undergo significant changes in 2024 as developer Bungie moves away from the seasonal model and introduces larger, more immersive storytelling experiences known as 'episodes.' This shift comes after the conclusion of season 15, Echoes of the Past, and follows the release of The Final Shape expansion on February 26.

The upcoming episodes, titled Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy, will be divided into three six-week acts. Each act will feature new stories, quests, activities, weapons, mods, and more. These episodes will delve into the consequences and aftermath of The Final Shape, providing players with a fresh and standalone narrative experience.

Bungie describes the episodes as a new way to experience Destiny, representing a major departure from the incremental storytelling of seasons. This change was motivated by player feedback, aiming to deliver more significant narrative strides and allow players to enjoy each episode as a self-contained story.

The studio states, "We at Bungie are tired of small steps. We want to take bigger risks and push ourselves to innovate and advance Destiny in ways that will blow you away. The shift to episodes gives us the opportunity to do that on a more frequent basis."

With the shift to episodes, players can expect more frequent changes, deeper story moments, and a wealth of loot and weapons. Season passes will still be available, offering 200 ranks for players to earn during each episode.

The first episode, Echoes of the Past, is scheduled to launch on February 26. The next two episodes will be released in 2023, followed by the final episode in 2024.

During the first episode, players will explore Titan, Mars, and the European Dead Zone in a quest to comprehend the Darkness. The second episode will take players to Io, the Reef, and Titan, while the third and final episode will transport them to the EDZ, Titan, and Mercury.

Destiny 2's next expansion, The Final Shape, will bring players to Titan and the European Dead Zone to confront the formidable threat of the Lightless.
