A new Destiny 2 leak suggests we could be getting a third Darkness subclass with next year’s The Final Shape expansion. If genuine, we’ll be getting a new toybox for one of the most popular classes in the multiplayer game – and one that should help entice players who have grown bored of the existing subclasses.
A brief video posted by a redditor shows a guardian beaming into the H.E.L.M. social space. It lasts for just two seconds, but at the two-second mark, a few frames of UI reveal a completely new super icon. The UI uses a red colorway not currently found in the game, suggesting the icon is for a new subclasses.
It’s hard to get a good look at the icon, but it certainly resembles a scythe. This would be the third scythe in the game, following the Nightstalker and the upcoming Daystalker class.
The original poster claims to have received the clip from a friend before deleting their account, and the video was posted to reddit. Although this could be a well-executed leak, there’s certainly a history of Destiny 2 leaks that make it intriguing.
Last year, a leak revealed a new subclass with green UI elements and three melee charges. This turned out to be the Oathkeeper, which is part of the Season of the Deep release.
Bungie is hosting a Destiny 2 livestream showcase on August 22 to reveal more about The Final Shape expansion. The event will be held at the Rock Church in Santa Monica, and you can expect the team to discuss what’s coming in the update.
The current state of the community includes frequent complaints about microtransactions, the seasonal model, PVP, and the narrative. It’s likely that Bungie will want to give players something more exciting to talk about and divert attention from these complaints.
So, if this leak is real, it may indicate that The Final Shape won’t release until 2023. It’s possible that the studio is delaying the expansion so it has extra development time. We’ll have to wait and see.
The Solstice event is currently live in Destiny 2, but it may not be a major success given the current mood. The recent patch introduced a significant damage buff for the Graviton Lance exotic pulse rifle, which is among the best weapons in the game.
While there are plenty of problems with the multiplayer game, the weapons still provide a sensational experience. If you want to know more about the upcoming expansion, here’s everything we know about Destiny 2’s The Final Shape.
