Destiny 2 players are worried that the “biggest” Witness lore in the Destiny 2 universe may be lost forever, with a key cutscene sparking concern among fans as to whether it will potentially be deleted from the FPS game.

This worry stems from the revelation of a crucial Witness origin story, which was first revealed during Season of the Deep and which players are hoping will be preserved. With the cutscene in question causing excitement among players due to its potentially massive narrative implications for the shooter game, the prospect of its possible removal has left a cloud over Destiny 2 lore fans.

The Witness lore is considered to be one of the most significant storylines in the game, providing important context and background to Destiny 2’s overarching narrative concerning the Vex race. The concern is that, if this lore is lost, it would be a significant blow to the game’s storytelling, with a gap potentially opening up in the shared world’s lore because of it.

This uncertainty comes from players discovering a cutscene labelled as “The Witness Path,” as revealed by YouTuber Mrmasser51. Discovered as part of the secondary season, Season of the Deep, the revelation of this cutscene has generated a lot of discussion and speculation among players as to its significance.

While the speculation regarding the cutscene is cause for excitement, with many players speculating that it is somehow linked to Uriel, the silent protagonist of the game, others have pointed out that the cutscene could be deleted since it appears as a “museum” item under the Lore tab. Players have also discovered that this happened to one of the Destiny 2 Whitefall Missions earlier in the season, with an option to view the video now simply generating a message saying, “Sorry, Bungie doesn’t want you to see this.”

Players have not been able to watch the cutscene in question, and the occasional periods of inactivity on the Destiny 2 broadcasts has generated concern that Bungie may potentially be erasing significant lore from the open-world game. However, as Blizzard Entertainment has done with Overwatch, players are hopeful that Bungie will address these concerns and clarify the fate of the Witness lore.

With the potential deletion of the Witness origin story raising questions about the longevity of narrative content in Destiny 2, it remains to be seen how Bungie will handle this situation and whether the studio will find a way to preserve the Witness lore.
