Elden Ring's Ranni the Witch: A Debate on Cosplay

Whether you love or hate Elden Ring’s strange and colourful world, you can’t deny that its witch Ranni is one of the most memorable characters in the RPG game. With that in mind, a new Elden Ring Cosplay attempts to bring the Elden Ring character to life, and while some people are praising the outfit, others are demanding that the cosplay creator add extra limbs to satisfy their strange desires.

The post, which was shared to the r/EldenRing subreddit, shares a number of different comments regarding the cosplayer behind the Ranni the Witch outfit. While some comments praise the dedication that went into the outfit, others are adamant that the cosplayer, who goes by the username Nelunia, needs to add extra arms to satisfy the demands of their strange cult.

“Ranni needs four arms,” one user comments. “She’s known for having four arms,” another adds. “Yeah, cosplayers need to stop making things look pretty,” another user comments. It’s not just Ranni’s arms that are under scrutiny, as other comments suggest that her design could do with more blue elements, or that she should have a weird floaty ghost face incorporated into the look.

There are also plenty of comments about the use of Photoshop in showcasing the cosplay, with some users arguing that it’s better to avoid photo manipulation in order to showcase the hard work that went into creating the outfit. “I’d rather see the cosplay without photoshopping,” one user comments. “Cosplay is art,” another user replies, “but it’s also a performance. If someone wants to alter a photo to make their work look cleaner, I don’t see why that’s a problem.”

Others call for less reliance on Photoshop, while also pointing out that the cosplay is missing two arms. “If you’re gonna pick on photoshopping, you might as well call out the fact that the cosplay is missing two arms,” one user comments. “I’ve seen plenty of cosplays that don’t have two arms,” another replies.

Another comment calls for moving cosplay-related discussions to a separate subreddit, with one user saying, “Reddit does not need another ‘cosplay’ thread.” “I don’t know why people keep responding to these comments,” another user replies. “It’s a cosplay thread, people are supposed to be excited.”

One comment describes the outfit as “attention-seeking,” with another saying, “If you don’t like it, don’t look at it.” Elsewhere, other users are more positive, with one commenting, “Amazing,” while others make comments about the hat, such as, “I’m sure the hat qualifies as some sort of eldren artifact.”

Another user comments positively on the outfit, writing, “The outfit is amazing.” They then add, “The hat looks a bit big, though.” Another user then replies with, “You’ll need to open both eyes to see better.”

There’s also a comment wondering what happened to Elden Ring 3, with one user saying, “Elden Ring 2 was so bad that the devs went out of business,” and another replying, “Wasn’t there supposed to be a sequel to the first game?”

In the end, it’s a pretty positive post, with the majority of commenters praising the outfit. While the comments about extra arms are a bit baffling, it’s hard to deny that the outfit is pretty darn impressive, with the witch’s iconic iPhone 13 also mentioned in one comment.
