Looking for the details on the Final Fantasy 16 Fire and Ice stage? The Fire and Ice quest will have players tackling the hellish landscape of the volcanic islands in an attempt to save the local populace from fire and ice. The stage involves exploring both a dangerous garden and a live volcano, so it is recommended to be equipped with fire resistance gear and plenty of potions.
The Fire and Ice stage and its accompanying quest is the second main story quest in Final Fantasy 16. Players return to the western islands, where they previously helped out Cap Major Velu. This time, they are accompanied by Jill, who has a personal score to settle, and her companion, Torgal. Here's everything players need to know going in, including all the boss fights, the rewards, and any cutscenes they may see.
Fire and Ice Stage Walkthrough
The Fire and Ice stage begins as players approach the shoreline on boats, with a peaceful ocean in front of them. It doesn't take long before the area comes alive with battles.
This stage starts in a safe zone with a linear path to follow. As players progress, they will encounter groups of enemies randomly attacking or chasing after terrified villagers. The stage transitions from the earth to the hellish fires inside a live volcano, with a series of combat encounters of increasing challenges.
When players are ready, they should head up towards the first group of enemies – Akashic Thorns and an Akashic Hornet. Simply attacking the Thorn and running towards the Hornet whenever possible will trigger the battle.
As players continue up the path, more soldiers appear to attack them. Behind the second gate, another group awaits, including Akashic Worgen. To the left of the gate is a locked chest that players can loot, containing 1,200 gil.
Behind the gate, at a dead end, is another group of soldiers, this time led by an Akashic Worgen and an Akashic Minotaur. After defeating them, players will find a chest that contains The Breath of Wind (Aerial Blast) accessory.
Further up the path, past several Scarlet Scorpions, players will encounter another group of Akashic soldiers led by a lone Akashic Wolf. There's a chest on the right that contains some gil.
The next section of the path takes players on a small wooden bridge inside the volcano itself. In this area, they will encounter Scarlet Scorpions, Bombs, and a Red Mousse.
The Red Mousse is the first flan-type enemy players face, with a variety of attacks that they will encounter in future fights. Most notably, Smash and Spinning Smash, which bash the player into the ground for heavy damage. There's also Leaping Smash, which has the same effect but happens in the air. Finally, the Red Mousse has a Firaga attack, a simple enough attack that begins a series of similar magic attacks from flan enemies.
As players make their way across the bridge, more Scarlet Scorpions will appear on the far side of the gap. They should head back over to loot the chest that was previously guarded by the Scorpions – this chest contains Mythril Wristlets.
The Fire Lizard is the second stage boss, similar to the Fafnir fought in the Greatwood but much more aggressive during this fight.
After defeating the Fire Lizard, players will climb a ladder, watch a cutscene, and be given free rein to explore the area. They should simply head down the path towards a set of large doors – there's nothing of interest on the left or right. Before reaching the Mothercrystal, however, players will face another group of enemies, including another Ironblood Fanatic.
This next area is a small clearing with large wooden doors on the left and a bridge across the gap ahead. As players explore, they will see a set of gates to their right – these lead back to the previous area. The bridge itself has several Ironblood Crusaders and an Ironblood Fanatic. A chest at the far end of the bridge contains a Phoenix Down.
