Ten Game Series I Can't Stand

If you’re like me, you have a list of game series you can’t stand. Maybe you’re a lone wolf in your hatred for the likes of Assassin’s Creed, or you’re one of many who think the Dragon Ball games are dog turds. I’ve got my own list of series I can’t stand, mainly because I find the gameplay weak, or the series itself is just so damn cringey.

Everyone has their own lists, and we’ve even seen a few articles looking at the most hated game series. This one is different though, we’re going to look at ten series that I can’t stand, and see if we can get to a hundred. If you want an easy list to read, this isn’t for you. If you want to share your own series you can’t stand, then this is the place for you.

The series I can’t stand are:

Mortal Kombat

I can’t stand the Mortal Kombat series. I’m not sure why, but I just can’t get into it at all. I always found the fighting system weak and the use of “K” instead of “C” to do special moves really annoying. I know a lot of people really love it, but I’ve never understood why.

Grand Theft Auto

I can’t stand the Grand Theft Auto games because of the association to “bad kids doing stupid things.” I know they’re meant to be satire and a parody of American culture, but that’s not really my thing. I played the first one and found it fun, but the series peaked for me with Vice City and hasn’t been the same since.

Call of Duty

I loved the first three Call of Duty campaigns, but once the series shifted focus to multiplayer against kids, I lost interest. The last campaign I enjoyed was the one set in space, but I can’t remember the name.

Halo

If it didn’t try to be Call of Duty, Halo could have lasted.

Madden

Madden peaked in 2004 and sports games in general have become gambling sims.

Kingdom Hearts

I don’t get Kingdom Hearts. I played older Call of Duty games when they were more realistic, but lost interest when they became futuristic. Kingdom Hearts feels similar; the crossover between Final Fantasy and Disney doesn’t appeal to me at all. The convoluted story doesn’t help, and if someone can explain what Kingdom Hearts is, I’ll be amazed.

Portal

I love Portal, and Portal 2 is one of my favourite games. The first Portal game is one of the funniest ever, but the sequel didn’t really hit the same notes for me. Portal 2 was still amazing, but the humour seemed a bit dry in comparison to the original.

Resident Evil

I actually love the Resident Evil series, even the games that are universally hated. I thought Resident Evil 4 was a masterpiece, and I actually enjoyed Resident Evil 2 Remake, which is honestly one of the best games of the year.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has a lot of issues, but the gameplay was a slog to get through. The previous game was also a slog, but that one was more fun.
