The massive file size for Final Fantasy 16 on PlayStation 5 has been revealed, with both the PC and PlayStation 5 editions of the upcoming RPG taking up a whopping 90.18 GB of space.

That means players will need to free up 90.18 GB of storage space to install Final Fantasy 16 on their system, whether they're playing on PS5 or PC.

Final Fantasy 16 is one of the biggest new releases of 2023, alongside Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and it's set to come out mere days after Call of Duty.

Many AAA games take up an astronomical amount of space on PS5, and Final Fantasy 16 won't be an exception. We've seen some games vastly exceed the 100 GB mark, with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War taking up the aforementioned astronomical 312.6 GB.

Other games like Gran Turismo 7 and Marvel’s Avengers need over 190 GB as well, and the full list even includes more Call of Duty titles. Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 both require 123.1 GB and 150.8 GB respectively. That said, Final Fantasy 16 may prove to be a rather large game as well.

Final Fantasy 16 PS5 preload time

While Final Fantasy 16 may end up joining that rather exclusive list of some very, very large games that take up over 120 GB, it's still somewhat surprising to see Square Enix’s latest RPG clocking in at 90 GB.

The good news is that players who pre-ordered the digital version already get to preload the game.

You won't be able to start preloading Final Fantasy 16 on PlayStation yet though, as gamers who pre-order the digital version on PSN can actually pre-load the game ahead of launch.

This means that players will be able to download Final Fantasy 16 on their PS5 ahead of the game's release, allowing them to start playing as soon as midnight local time hits.

In general, PS5 owners can start preloading games generally around 48 hours before launch. In fact, Final Fantasy 16 also has a day one patch, with preload functionality starting on June 20.

Final Fantasy 16's file size will likely change over time as well, as Square Enix releases more updates for the game in the coming weeks and months.

In the meantime though, don't forget that Final Fantasy 16 is getting a day one patch after all. It definitely has plenty of improvements and bug fixes, but one of the most notable additions is further combat options for the Crystarium system.

Players who dive into the lengthy multiplayer demo can transfer their progress to the full game, and when they do that, they'll end up with a more combat-focused level to play with right away.
