How to Beat Ultima in Final Fantasy 16

Ultima, one of the most powerful villains in Final Fantasy 16, taunts players throughout their journey in Dataland. Players are driven to find Ultima and his cronies, hoping to engage in an epic battle. However, defeating Ultima is no easy task.

Ultima possesses control over all the elements, making him incredibly powerful. He unleashes strong physical and magical attacks and has the ability to teleport around the battlefield. In addition, Ultima can utilize devastating abilities such as Neutron Flare, Leaping Slash, Slashing Combo, Electric Slash, Graviga, Mark of the Storm, Blizzard, Event Horizon, Ricochet, Deliverance, Eternal Darkness, Darkness Beam, Flaming Glide, and Frostbolt.

Phase One: Opening Attacks

During the initial phase of the battle against Ultima, players must be cautious of his standard two-hit physical combo and the frequent use of Neutron Flare. Equipping Garuda with Deadly Embrace is crucial to avoid this troublesome attack.

Phase Two: Increased Aggression

In the second phase, Ultima's aggression intensifies, accompanied by new attacks. Players should be wary of Neutron Flare and Ultima's ability to use Graviga, which inflicts heavy damage on the entire party if they fail to escape the gravity field swiftly. Ultima also commands Event Horizon, a powerful area-of-effect attack that players can evade by leaping over it. Timing jumps effectively is essential, as Ultima uses this attack multiple times in succession. Additionally, Ultima employs his standard two-hit physical attack more frequently.

Phase Three: Rapid Succession

In the final phase, Ultima launches a series of new attacks rapidly, leaving players with less time to react. In addition to the standard two-hit physical combo, Ultima employs Electric Slash, similar to Lightning's Thundara Blitz. He often combines this attack with either Ricochet or Deliverance, powerful long-range blasts that players should avoid unless they are confident in their ability to inflict damage before escaping.

As players become familiar with Ultima's attack patterns, they can develop their own strategies to deal damage that may not be listed here. Defeating Ultima yields experience, ability points, gil, and spoils, including The Pull of Darkness (Dancing Steel), Sharp Fangs, Steelsilk, and Magicked Ash.
