Hogwarts Legacy Reviews: A Closer Look at Gameplay, Story, and More

Hogwarts Legacy reviews have been pouring in over the past few days, and we’ve gathered some of the most interesting and varied opinions on the highly anticipated game. While some of our own Hogwarts Legacy preview impressions of the game’s opening hours left us feeling underwhelmed, others were left in awe of the rich fictional world and eager to spend more time with the fifth-year student. So, how did the full Hogwarts Legacy experience fare?

While many people initially fell in love with Hogwarts Legacy’s world, art, and music, their enthusiasm waned as the repetitive tasks and lackluster loot system became more apparent. Others found the combat fun but shallow and lacking in challenge, leaving room for improvement in future installments, whereas the exploration content such as dungeon areas left a lot to be desired.

“The game is fun but repetitive,” user Tobiwan1 writes in their Hogwarts Legacy review. “The combat is adequate but shallow, and the exploration content is dull and lacks variety. There were times when I felt the world was unfinished, with certain mechanics feeling like placeholders and resulting in a lifeless experience.”

The repetitive quests and lack of variety left many users feeling disappointed, with some pointing out that tasks assigned to a fifth-year student seemed far too intense for someone of that age. However, many others expressed excitement at the potential for a sequel set in different schools of witchcraft and wizardry, sparking a desire for new and fresh experiences.

“The game has potential, I just feel like it didn’t live up to its full potential,” user Bludger writes in their review. “I will probably not replay it, but I am still glad that I played it.”

This sentiment was echoed by many others, who expressed appreciation of the game’s visual appeal and the joy of exploring the world of Hogwarts, but felt that many aspects fell short and failed to retain their interest. Some drew comparisons to other Harry Potter games, highlighting the fun mini-games and creative collectibles found in previous titles, while others expressed a desire to see more elements taken from the Lego Harry Potter games.

“I’m glad I spent my money on it,” user Pussycat writes. “I enjoyed it for the most part, but wish certain things had been done differently.”

While there are still a number of highly anticipated games on the horizon – such as Halo Infinite and Morpheus VR – there has been comparatively little discourse surrounding Hogwarts Legacy a month after its release, and some have suggested that this is due to the presence of these other titles.

“I got my money’s worth,” user x_Nate_x writes. “If someone told me this was the last Harry Potter game, I’d be disappointed, but as the first of many, I’m happy.”

While this seems to be the general consensus among many players, others felt that they would not recommend it to fans of the series, given how certain aspects were done differently to the previous games.

“I would not recommend this game to any true Harry Potter fan,” user AngelHeartXO writes. “It is a missed opportunity to stay faithful to the books.”
