Magic: The Gathering Commander Masters preconstructed decks have been ranked by their strength and appeal, with new cards and plenty of reprints from Magic’s past to look out for. If you’re looking for a competitive deck to get you started in the format, or just a great way to try out some new cards, these Magic: The Gathering Commander decks are worth your while.

Enduring Enchantments

The first preconstructed deck, “Enduring Enchantments,” focuses on enchantment cards, offering value for playing enchantments as well as cards that punish opponents for destroying them. Mesa and Verduran Enchantress are two of the best cards in the deck for this, with the rest of the deck focusing on ramping up mana to power out the big, mono-colored monsters in the deck as quickly as possible.

Enchantment strategies are among the strongest in Commander, but the deck is a bit light on cards that protect your enchantments from cards like Hull Breach or Vandalblast. This could be a big problem if you’re facing off against opponents with a lot of removal spells, especially if you don’t draw into your ramp early enough to get your big, powerful creatures into play. There are answers, but you’ll need to play smart to avoid handing your opponents free wins.

Despite this, there are 10 great new cards in this deck, including a 10/10 trample creature that can gain indestructibility – absolutely powerful in a format where few decks run enough removal to deal with creatures as large as this. If you’re a fan of enchantment creatures, this deck is a solid choice.

Sliver Swarm

The “Sliver Swarm” deck is a favorite among Commander players. Despite missing some notable Slivers like Muscle Sliver, this deck includes beloved Sliver creatures like Sinew, Winged, and Crystalline Slivers. There are also six new Slivers, including the Sliver Gravemother, which can give all your Slivers a boost. Sliver fans will need to adjust this deck to suit their preferences, but it’s a great starting point.

Planeswalker Party

The “Planeswalker Party” deck features many red, blue, and white planeswalkers. It’s a solid strategy that can go in many different directions, from a more controlling deck with Teferi, Jace, and Narset to a more aggressive build that can suit Sarkhan, Chandra, and Tibalt. Proliferation cards help keep your planeswalkers loyal, but they’re such powerful cards that opponents will see your strategy and target you, so you’ll want to pack instant-speed answers like Path to Exile.

Eldrazi Unbound

The “Eldrazi Unbound” deck is all about big, mono-colored monsters. You’ll ramp up your mana as quickly as possible to get Eldrazi creatures like Thran Dynamo and Oblivion Sower into play and dominate the game with them. Other cards like Calamity of the Titans and Perilous Vault can destroy your opponents’ biggest threats, allowing you to keep the upper hand.

This deck’s biggest weakness is its lack of card draw. If you empty your hand too early, you won’t be able to continue playing threats and risk losing the game before you can even pull off your strategy. Playing smartly, making sure to hold on to some of your cards in hand, and keeping your life total high will help you avoid this problem.

Magic: The Gathering Commander Masters preconstructed decks release on August 4. If you can’t wait until then, take a look at some of the best Commander decks currently available to tide you over.
