Magic: The Gathering Commander Masters

The upcoming Magic: The Gathering Commander Masters set is a highly anticipated release among Commander players. This deluxe reprint set focuses on providing high-value reprints for the popular Commander format, while also introducing some new cards with a Commander-heavy twist.

Reprints and New Cards

Commander Masters is designed specifically for Commander players, offering staple reprints such as Sol Ring and Arcane Signet, as well as beloved older favorites like Path of Ancestry and Fellwar Stone. In addition to these reprints, the set will also include some highly sought-after "competitive staples" that Commander players have been clamoring for.

The main set in booster packs will consist mainly of reprints, while the preconstructed Commander decks will feature new cards found in Collector boosters.

Exciting Inclusions

In a press release, Wizards of the Coast confirmed that Commander Masters will include uncommon staples and powerful cards that haven't been reprinted in years. Mana rocks will play a significant role, with the inclusion of Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, and all five Medallions that reduce the cost of specific colored spells.

Despite using the same Commander draft format as Commander Legends and Commander Legends: Battle For Baldur's Gate, Commander Masters will feature cards older than 1997. This opens up the possibility of including cards from sets like Dominaria, Dominaria United, and even The Brothers' War.

Art and Foil Treatments

Commander Masters will showcase various art and foil treatments. Retro frames will be exclusively used for the basic lands, featuring artwork by renowned Magic artists. Different types of booster packs will offer a generous spread of art styles, with draft and set boosters receiving the most treatments. Collector boosters will include exclusive foil-etched and textured foils.

Additionally, the set will feature frame-break cards, portrait cards, borderless and extended art, and more. Notably, none of these cards will be serialized, distinguishing Commander Masters from previous sets.

Commander Archetypes and Draft Format

Commander Masters will introduce a variety of different Commander archetypes, though more details will be revealed on July 12. The draft format for the set will be the same as Commander Legends and Commander Legends: Battle For Baldur's Gate.

Players will draft three 20-card packs and build a 60-card deck based on their Commander's color identity. It's worth noting that unlike previous Commander sets, Commander Masters will not include partner or background cards.

Release Date

Commander Masters is set to launch on August 4. In the meantime, fans of Magic: The Gathering can look forward to other upcoming sets.
