The latest Minecraft update: Tales and Trails

The latest Minecraft update, called Tales and Trails and also known as version 1.20, brings exciting new features to the sandbox game. One of the major additions in this update is Minecraft archeology, which introduces new mechanics, reworks existing ones, and introduces new blocks. This lore-heavy element offers players a glimpse into the game's history and changes the way they approach exploration and mining.

Minecraft archeology explained

Archeology, a non-profitable career in Minecraft 1.20, focuses on exploration rather than resource gathering. It adds a layer of purpose to mining by introducing suspicious blocks that can contain valuable objects. To uncover these treasures, players must interact with the suspicious blocks using the brush tool. These suspicious blocks are often associated with new structures, including Trail Ruins.

During your Minecraft travels, you can stumble upon various archeological items. These items range from common ones like coal, bricks, and books, to rare loot such as relic music discs, sniffer eggs, and even emeralds. Keep in mind that emeralds are a particularly valuable form of loot found in treasure chests.

Minecraft trail ruins

Trail ruins are ancient settlement remnants resembling fallen villages, similar to Rome's Colosseum or Greece's Parthenon. These ruins were essential to the region's overworld trail expeditions and can be found in different stages of decay. To reveal hidden treasures, players need to thoroughly excavate the trail ruins. Instead of using TNT to blow them open, players will find suspicious gravel around the ruins that can be examined with the brush tool.

In addition to treasure and loot, players can find cosmetic items like pottery shards in loot chests. These shards can be combined to create decorative pots. Smithing templates are also available, allowing players to customize their armor with various leather inlay designs. These templates are part of an early-access introduction to ancient armor trim, which has been teased by Mojang.

The existence of trail ruins and the introduction of archeology and once-extinct Sniffers tease the mysterious history of Minecraft's world, hinting at long-unsolved secrets.

Finding trail ruins in Minecraft

Trail ruins can be found in several biomes, but they are most commonly found in plains and savannah biomes. Desert biomes are particularly important in the Tales and Trails update as they contain upgraded desert temples. If a desert oasis is generated, a nearby desert temple can be found. Inside the temple, players can find three new weapons: the Tribal Spear, Waraxe of the Virile, and the Tribal Trident. However, players should beware of the temple boss, the Desiccated.

Here are a few examples of biomes where trail ruins can be found:

  • Plains
  • Savannah
