Achieving Every Ending in Nier Automata

I achieved every Nier Automata ending today, and I’m incredibly proud of myself. I know, the OP never said they’d sacrifice their whole save file to help others succeed in the game, but I was sure they’d do it anyway. Turns out, I’m just a terrible person.

But anyway, I’m back from a Nier Automata pilgrimage, and I’m ready to talk about what I saw. I’ve also looked at some of your comments about your own Nier Automata achievements, and I’ve got some tips for my fellow players who want to know about how to get all the main endings and complete quests and weapons on subsequent playthroughs.

Sharing Tips for Success

First, though, I want to address the OP’s choice about not sharing their save file. I’m not going to pretend that I don’t think it’s a little bit selfish. If you want to earn trophies or achievements, well, you’re just going to have to play the game. You can’t just skip over the hard stuff and just give everyone else the rewards. Sure, your time is valuable, and you shouldn’t have to grind, but that’s what makes achievements and trophies special.

Anyway, I’m not going to let it affect my assessment of the Nier Automata achievements I saw. Some of you are also sharing your experiences of getting all the main endings and completing quests and weapons on subsequent playthroughs.

“You get all the main endings by going in alphabetical order,” one user points out. “Everything else is an easter egg ending, with a unique scenario.” They also mention that the first five are the main ones.

Another user shares their surprise that “All of them are alphabetical. I know because I kept peeking at the endings on the wiki during the game.” A humorous exchange takes place about how many times you’re allowed to peek in the game, with one user saying they peeked “twice, but that’s all I needed.”

There’s also some talk about achievements, and I want to say that I appreciate how Nier Automata handles them. I played the game several times and got one achievement per playthrough, but I wasn’t awarded one for completing the game twice. It did say that I achieved it with the first playthrough, but the screen that shows my total completion percentage never added the second playthrough’s achievement. It didn’t change anything about the game itself, but it felt a bit stingy.

The OP says they’re going to play again the next day, and someone replies, “Glory to mankind.” That’s not a reference to anything in the game, but it’s amusing, so I’m going to keep it.

The final bits of dialogue in the E ending are really good, too, with multiple users emphasizing how impactful they are. One user asks about the value of playing through multiple times, and others emphasize the importance of doing so to experience the complete story.

I also want to highlight one user’s comment about how many hours they spent on the game, since they express their surprise at the emotional depth of the game. “I just started a new game last night,” they say, “and it took me about 48 hours including side quests. I’m so astonished by how emotional the game got. I wasn’t expecting it at all.”

“I’m going to play this after hearing about your achievements,” another user replies, which is good to hear.

“How do you get the icon after Z?” someone else asks, and another replies, “It’s a secret DLC ending.” They also clarify that the arenas are part of the DLC.

I also want to address the traumatic fish incident, since someone shares their experience of losing all their progress after completing a second playthrough. “I was just attacked by a pack of dogs,” they say, “and then the screen faded to black and said ‘You have deleted your save file.’”

It’s funny, because I didn’t lose my progress, but I did have a similar experience. I was playing through a second time and had completed the game. I was wandering around the Bunker with A2, and I wanted to get some more materials before leaving. I reached the Materials Room and suddenly realized that I had accidentally hit the button to delete all my progress.

I had completed the game, though, so I figured I’d just start over again from the beginning. I spent a few minutes crafting a save file and then deleted it – and then I discovered that my save file was gone.
