Looking for the rarest Nintendo DS games?

We all like a good collectable, and what better place to find them than the hottest portable games console of all time? From re-releases of classics like Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda to limited edition cartridges and distribution games, the Nintendo DS has its fair share of Rare Games.

The DS, DS Lite, DSi, 2DS, and 3DS may have its dual screens and touch functionality to thank for its massive success, but it was also home to some of the best Nintendo games ever made. With so much demand for the rarest games, the closure of the Wii U eShop in 2023 only made them more rare and expensive. Here’s our run-down of the most expensive games for the Nintendo DS.

The rarest Nintendo DS games are:

Magician’s Quest: Mysterious Times is a life simulator very similar to Animal Crossing, although it wasn’t as well received as Nintendo’s classic. Now, it’s become increasingly rare and expensive, with a new copy selling for $272.

While the North American release of Magician’s Quest was fairly standard, the PAL region release saw a change to the boxart and the removal of a scene involving a magic spell. It also includes a bonus DVD with special features and a short anime movie.

Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier isn’t a mainline entry in the Super Robot Taisen series, but a spin-off RPG that follows a new character named Atsuma. The game is also extremely rare due to limited copies, with a new copy now costing $275.

Mega Man Star Force 3 takes the action RPG games in a new direction, putting Mega Man in an open world and giving him a special device called the ‘Cross System’. While Mega Man Star Force 3 isn’t rare in terms of copies, it’s expensive because of its limited physical release. New copies of Mega Man Star Force 3 cost approximately $300.

Little Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQ is an action rail shooter, and it’s rare because of its limited physical release. While it was available on the DSiWare store, a copy of the physical release would be extremely valuable if you could find one. Little Red Riding Hood’s Zombie BBQ’s value is currently estimated at around $329.

Commando: Steel Disaster is another action game that was initially released as a DSiWare title. Despite this, Commando: Steel Disaster has become quite valuable, with a new copy costing $350.

Pokemon Platinum is easily the most valuable Pokemon game. Not only does it provide a full-fledge experience on the go, it also gives you access to the legendary Pokemon Giratina. As such, it’s in high demand, and can fetch as much as $353.

Dokapon Journey is a party RPG with board game elements. Dokapon Journey was only released in certain regions, making it harder to find. As such, Dokapon Journey commands a price of around $399.

Pokemon SoulSilver Version is a remake of the classic Game Boy Advance title Pokemon Silver with added content. SoulSilver’s high demand makes it rather expensive, with a copy going for $417.

Solatorobo: Red The Hunter is a fantasy steampunk action RPG where you play as the dog-like character ‘Mash’. Solatorobo is extremely rare, and copies go for $549.

Powerbike is a motocross game where you race against others on various terrain. While it’s not particularly expensive, Powerbike has seen its price rise over the years, with a new copy costing $558.

Shepherd’s Crossing 2 is a life simulation and farming game in the same vein as Harvest Moon. Shepherd’s Crossing 2 is also quite rare, making it a valuable collectable, with a copy going for up to $655.

Pokemon HeartGold Special Edition – this special edition of HeartGold comes with a Pokewalker step tracker, bundled in a special box. Pokemon HeartGold Special Edition is a collector’s item, and sells for around $814.

Nintendo used distribution cartridges to promote special events, such as the Pokemon 20th Anniversary. Most of these cartridges contain exclusive Pokemon and are extremely rare. The Diamond and Pearl cartridge is one such example, and is priced at $1,161.

A promotional cartridge for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was given away at E3 2004. The special edition Zelda cartridge is extremely rare, and can cost you $1,350.

Finally, the rarest Nintendo DS game is undoubtedly Fruitfall. Not only is it a game about evil flying fruit, but it’s also one of the worst games we’ve ever played. That said, it’s also the most expensive, with an astonishingly high price tag of $1,999,999.99.

And that’s the list of the rarest Nintendo DS games, and their price tags.
