The PlayStation Boss Speaks Out

Jim Ryan, the head of PlayStation, took the stand today in the Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) case against Microsoft. During his testimony, Ryan offered insights into various topics, including his thoughts on subscription-based gaming.

Ryan's comments focused on the controversial Xbox Game Pass, which has been a subject of debate among publishers. When asked about other publishers' views on Game Pass, Ryan stated, "Every publisher unanimously dislikes Game Pass. They perceive it as value destructive rather than a beneficial opportunity."

According to Ryan, he has personally spoken to all the other publishers, and they all share the same negative opinion of Game Pass. They believe that it diminishes the value of their games.

During the testimony, the conversation shifted to the potential acquisition of Call of Duty by PlayStation. Ryan was asked if, in the event the deal with Activision falls apart, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of Activision Blizzard, would consider putting Call of Duty on Game Pass. Ryan responded, "I don't know. I don't know if I would put it on Game Pass."
