Knowing how to farm Pokemon BDSP shinies
Want to know about Pokemon BDSP shiny odds? The Alolan islands are home to some of the rarest Pokemon in the series, and one of the best ways to catch them is by farming for shinies. Some of the previous games’ methods for shiny hunting are no longer available, but BDSP has multiple ways to increase your shiny odds.
The base shiny odds in BDSP are one in 4096, the same as in previous games. Some methods, such as the Masuda method, rely on your adjusted shiny odds, while others, such as the Pokeradar, allow you to encounter previously unavailable Pokemon and Pokemon with Hidden Abilities. Overall, there are multiple ways to increase your odds of catching a shiny Pokemon in the latest entries in the series. Here’s everything you need to know about shiny hunting in Pokemon BDSP.
BDSP shiny hunting methods
Soft-resetting is a method where you save before encountering a shiny Pokemon and reset if it’s not shiny, allowing you to reroll the encounter. This method is useful in certain areas where the only Pokemon that appear are those you want to farm, such as the Totem Pokemon in Pokemon Let’s Go Eevee. Overworld encounters have pre-determined attributes, so you have to encounter a Pokemon to see if it’s shiny.
There are also some instances where you can’t soft-reset for shinies, such as Pokemon in the Pokemon Tower, the Battle Tree, and Grandpa’s trial. However, you can use IV checking websites for Pokemon in these areas.
Pokemon BDSP shiny locked Pokemon
There are very few shiny locked Pokemon in BDSP, but those that are have their shiny form as the locked form. For example, Gyarados is shiny locked in its shiny form.
Shiny Charm
The Shiny Charm boosts shiny odds for Masuda method eggs but not for random encounters or other methods. To get one, you need to catch all 493 Pokemon in the National Pokedex and speak to Morimoto at the Game Director’s House.
Masuda method
The Masuda method involves breeding your target Pokemon with a Pokemon from a different language game to boost shiny odds. Ditto is useful for this method, and foreign Dittos are easily obtainable through standardized link codes.
Pokeradar
The Pokeradar is a tool that allows you to encounter previously unavailable Pokemon and Pokemon with Hidden Abilities. You can also use it for shiny hunting by chaining encounters.
Chaining is a method of encountering and catching or knocking out Pokemon in shaking grass patches to continue the chain. The ideal grass patches are four tiles away as they have the best chance to continue the chain. If the grass patches run out, you can recharge the Pokeradar by running 50 steps and use it again for new patches of grass.
Catching a Pokemon boosts the chance of grass four tiles away continuing the chain by 10%. There is a 7% chance that even with correct chaining, the chain will be broken. It is ideal to catch all the Pokemon in your chain to increase the chances of success.
