Poltchageist: The Creepiest Pokémon Backstory

A newly revealed Pokemon with one of the creepiest backstories in the series is making fans uneasy as it drains life from people. Poltchageist, the ghost-type Pokemon, is set to make its debut in the upcoming Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, and its origin story revolves around a tea master who was shunned and never visited, leading to his eventual demise.

In a new trailer titled “The Haunting Tale of Poltchageist,” we learn of the life and eventual death of the old tea master, whose strict teachings were never fully embraced by his students. After being shunned by the community, the old tea master “fainted” from exhaustion as his tea caddy was passed on to several owners.

Eventually, the tea caddy was neglected, and it’s from this tea caddy that Poltchageist emerges, believed to be the spirit of the old tea master. Poltchageist is shown in the trailer encountering an ill-mannered woman who accidentally breaks a teacup, angering the Pokémon. It sprinkles matcha on the woman, causing her skin to glow green and draining her life force, leaving her in a coma-like state.

The video also shows Poltchageist draining the life force of the old man and the children as well. The reason behind Poltchageist’s actions, particularly its hostility towards groups of people, remains unknown. On a positive note, Poltchageist possesses the ability to seal cracks in household appliances and chipped teacups.

However, this ability may not outweigh the potential harm caused by its life-draining tendencies. Despite its dark Backstory, Poltchageist is considered cute by many fans, with its appearance resembling a sentient caulk gun, making it an interesting addition to the Pokémon lineup.

The new video also highlights the other new Pokemon in the upcoming games, which you can find a rundown of here.

The official release date for Pokemon Scarlet & Violet is November 2020.
