Pokemon Sleep: A Surprising Productivity Tool

I’m not interested in Pokemon Sleep. I have better things to do than play an app while I sleep. But, it turns out, that’s exactly why it’s become my go-to productivity tool. Despite its gimmicky premise, Pokemon Sleep has led to an increase in my focus, and an uninterrupted workflow for the past week.

The game itself is simple: you play by sleeping. The more you sleep, the more you play. But despite my lack of interest in the game itself, it turns out that its rewards system and overall methodology can be applied to other areas of life, and in this case, increased focus and productivity.

I’m not exactly a productivity whiz. I’ve tried different methods like the Pomodoro technique, but it’s not that hard to get distracted during the breaks. So I decided to try a new method to stay focused during my 10-hour workday. I’m talking, of course, about Pokemon Sleep.

I’ve been leaving my phone on my windowsill, and have been wearing headphones to minimize noise while the app records my “sleep.” The game makes me hesitant to pick up my phone – even for something as innocuous as checking the time – because I’m terrified that it’s going to disrupt my accumulated points.

I’m not sure how the score relates to encounters, but it’s far from a motivating factor. It’s not even really a game, but the false sense of progress has me hooked. I’m not sure how long I’ll keep playing the app, but for now it’s been surprisingly effective.

Pokemon Sleep is hardly a replacement for traditional sleep tracking, but it’s been the perfect tool for boosting my focus during the day. I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to keep it up, but it’s been a surprisingly effective solution in my fight against distractions.

If you’re looking for other ways to boost your focus, take a look at our favourite gaming headphones, or maybe even one of the best gaming laptops around right now.
