The Pokemon Gameboy Cartridge

The Pokemon Gameboy cartridge is the perfect way to play one of the best RPG games on the go. It'll take you back to when you were a kid playing the original. The retro games from the 90s evoke memories of a simpler time, and carrying around a Gameboy and playing Pokemon on it will make you feel like a kid again.

Many of the Gameboy cartridge reviews discuss the starter Pokemon you choose. You'll probably want to pick Totodile or Cyndaquil if you're going to be playing on the Gameboy. Grass starters like Meganium are always overlooked, and people would only ever pick Charmander back in the day.

Others share their stories of choosing different starters in the past or reflect on their childhood memories of wanting a purple Gameboy. The intro music also brings back a wave of nostalgia, and you might find yourself thinking about digging out that old Gameboy you had for a wormlight.

"I had the same color Gameboy," one user writes, "and I'm suddenly tempted to dig it out." Another user shares a story about their Gameboy surviving rain and a live silverfish crawling inside. "I was very upset when it was lost," they write, "and I'm still sad that I didn't get to play it again."

"I want the yellow one so bad," another writes, "just so I can catch Mew." Someone else replies with a tip about catching Mew on the Gameboy: "You can trade Mew to your blue version and start over with Mew as your main starter," they write.

"I never would have thought that seeing one of these in the wild again would make me feel this way," someone else writes, "but I'm overwhelmed. My childhood is right in front of me." If you're feeling nostalgic yourself, we recommend checking out our guide on how to buy functional fakes of Gameboys on eBay, so you don't have to pay a fortune for a box that might not even work.

Another user shares their recent experience of playing Pokemon Emerald on their Gameboy: "I had Emerald on my DS, and then I got a Gameboy again," they write, "so I played the rest of Emerald on the Gameboy, and then got Fire Red to play on my DS."

"I remember my first handheld was also a clear purple Gameboy," another replies, "I'm so jealous of everyone who still has theirs." The topic of battery life (and low batteries) is brought up, along with the power light and how the battery levels are displayed on the Gameboy.

"I'm so scared that the battery is going to die in the middle of the game," someone else writes, "I remember losing my progress so many times because my battery died." Another comment is made about the image showing low batteries, but it's debated whether that's really the case.

If you're feeling nostalgic for the Gameboy and want something similar but with more power, you might want to upgrade to the rg35xx Gameboy, which has an IPS backlit display and can work with a Gameboy cartridge.
