The Best Horse in Red Dead Redemption 2

Looking for the best horse in RDR2? With so much of the sandbox game spent atop your trusty steed, it’s crucial you pick one with the best stats to match your playstyle. Thankfully, RDR2 has plenty of good options to make your journey through early America less of a chore.

Suffolk Punch Horses

There are plenty of Suffolk Punch horses in RDR2, as they’re often the ones pulling wagons. The reason they get carriage duty is because of their large, heavy frames that help them pull the larger coaches. Frankly speaking, there isn’t much that sets a Morgan higher than a Suffolk Punch. Sure, there are faster and stronger horses, but the stats behind the Kentucky Saddler may not be the most impressive. However, it’s an accessible horse that will fit excellently in any short travel, be it from your RDR2 campsite to the Red Dead Redemption 2 Wild Horse Canyon cave, or even a short jaunt around Valentine.

Shire Horses

If size is what you crave, then the Shire is for you. The Appaloosa breed is popular among Arthur’s allies, and while there’s not a whole lot of difference between the Appaloosa and an American Paint in terms of stats, you’ll look the part atop one. If you’re looking for an affordable racehorse, then the American Standardbred will fit the bill. It may not have the best overall stats, but it’s cheap and can get you through the lower levels of the RDR2 races.

Dutch Warmblood Horses

The Dutch Warmblood is considered a workhorse in Red Dead Redemption 2, and if durability is something you value in a horse, look no further. The Hungarian Half-bred is another good warhorse with exceptional stats. In RDR2, Mustangs are interesting in that they are a multi-class horse. The Ardennes represent some of the heaviest horses in the game, perfect for charging down foes in a manner befitting the best Red Dead Redemption 2 gunslingers. If speed is your craving, then a Thoroughbred horse is what you need. Finally, the Turkoman is another multi-class horse.

That’s the best horse in RDR2, and all of the various breeds in the game. For everything else you need to get started in Red Dead Redemption 2, make sure to check out our RDR2 guides on the RDR2 map, RDR2 guns, and RDR2 horse riding controls.
