At a certain point in Red Dead Redemption 2, you may have stopped caring about the dots on the map and the next treasure hunt. You may know, deep down inside, that you shouldn’t rob a bank. Sure, it might go undetected for now, and it may let you continue to live the outlaw life. But eventually, your deeds will catch up to you. To try to defend your actions, you could say to yourself, “It doesn’t matter if I rob that bank! It won’t lead to my consequence.”
No, it won’t. But one of the most satisfying experiences while playing Red Dead Redemption 2 is searching for the choices and tough decisions Rockstar games are known for, and trying to determine which consequence is the one that actually matters. The choices listed in this guide will stick with you throughout the story of Red Dead Redemption 2, and can even cause a mission to end very differently.
Major Red Dead Redemption 2 choices
These major choices all change the story of Red Dead Redemption 2 in a significant way.
At one point during the story, Dutch will send you to Saint Denis to get Jessica. When you arrive at the apartment, you will meet Jessica’s new family: Leonard Bonney, Abigail, and Jack. You have the option to either kidnap Jessica or let her stay with the Bonneys. If you decide to kidnap Jessica, her family will be furious and Abigail will be removed from your follower roster. But if you let her stay with her family, Abigail will be grateful and you will receive a gift from them.
While in Saint Denis, Dutch will order you to rob a bank so he can flee Saint Denis without anyone knowing about it. If you decide to rob the bank, you will gain money and honor. But if you don’t rob the bank, you will lose money but will gain honor.
The gang will come across a group of bandits who took some settlers hostage. You will be asked to free the settlers or the Native Americans. If you choose to free the settlers, you will make the Native Americans unhappy. In return, they will stop protecting Dutch and the gang will be forced to escape into the wilderness. But if you decide to help the Native Americans, you will make your new friends happy, but you will lose honor.
You will visit Emma Marston in Saint Denis. While you are there, you will meet a French fan of Wagner named Jean. He wants to kill the sheriff for killing his mother. If you decide to help Jean, you will lose honor. But if you kill the sheriff yourself, you will gain honor. If you follow Emma’s advice, you will gain honor and she will become your friend.
There will be an attack on the gang’s safehouse, which will force everyone to separate. Jack will kidnap Abigail and take her to Blackwater so Dutch can protect her. If the gang stays with Abigail and Jack, they will be attacked by the Mexican Army, but if they let Jack go and flee, Abigail will die.
You will go on a mission to find Cautious Clem. This will lead you to a trap set by Bill Williamson. It’s possible that your companion dies in the mission.
