A Red Dead Redemption 2 beloved character has passed away, and the GTA 6 hype community is feeling the pain. Much like the Arthur of the Red Dead Redemption 2 story, the canine character of Cain shares a special connection to all of us, and now we can see just how heartwarming that connection is.
The dearly loved pooch, whose real name was Einstein, served as a motion capture actor for the Red Dead Redemption 2 character of Cain. You might not remember him, but the canine could be found around the Van der Linde camp in Clemens Point, and acted as the dog under Demmit Dover’s incompetent care.
Jason Barnes, a Senior Animator for Rockstar Games and Einstein’s owner, shared the tragic news on Instagram. “June 9, 2018 – August 3, 2023. It’s true,” Barnes writes. “Our boy Einstein, who graced your screens as Cain in @rockstargames Red Dead Redemption 2, has passed.
“Through his work in acting he touched the hearts and iPads of many famous game directors, animation directors, and assistant directors. He will be missed, but will live on from the gift of his motion capture and modelling. Rest In Peace, E.”
While he only played a small role in Arthur Morgan’s tale, you’d be hard-pressed to find a Red Dead Redemption 2 fan who doesn’t remember Cain fondly. It’s always nice to see such a small touch filled with so much love and meaning, and it helps emphasize how special Einstein must have been to his master and all those around him.
Fans of the game have flocked to Instagram to offer Barnes their condolence, while Twitter posts celebrate the life of Einstein. We can only encourage Barnes to know that Einstein will forever be immortalized as part of one of the greatest video games ever made, and that the Red Dead Redemption 2 community can hopefully be a source of support during this difficult time.
If you want to experience the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 for yourself, you can do so on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. While there has been no news from Rockstar about a new Red Dead game or if GTA 6 is even in the works, this is the kind of sad news we have to take as one of the most recent pieces of information about an existing game.
