Rockstar Games' open-world adventure, Red Dead Redemption 2, features countless missions to embark on. However, if you're seeking tales that will send shivers down your spine, there are a select few side quests that will truly make you feel uneasy.
Based on real-world accounts, the events in Red Dead Redemption 2 are incredibly authentic. While many missions require careful preparation and are quite intricate, there are several stories that add a dark twist to the game's narrative.
A Dark Turn
Homestead manager Breanna requires assistance in expanding her business. To do so, you must obtain a rare cougar pelt. Although the owner of the hunting store seems unfazed by the act of killing the animal, when you present Breanna with the spoils, her demeanor takes a dark turn. The mission and its dialogue options leave room for interpretation as to whether she is involved in the pelt trade or not. Regardless, she is not someone to be trifled with.
A Bright Bouncing Boy
Reverend Swanson challenges you to a lighthearted game of kick the can, which quickly turns into a competition between the Reverend and Alfonso Boone. However, the atmosphere changes drastically when you venture further into the wilderness and stumble upon a grisly sight - a body skinned alive by an unknown assailant.
Free the Slaves
Reverend Swanson seeks your aid in liberating a number of slaves from captivity, offering a monetary reward in return. Although the cause is noble, Reverend Swanson's intentions become dubious.
Electric Chair Engineering
In the side mission titled "The Mercies of Knowledge," you are tasked with testing an electric chair invention on a criminal. The inventor shows no remorse, stating, "We can always use more to test this on..."
Aberdeen Pig Farm
A brother and sister duo take up residence on an island, where they engage in the gruesome acts of murder and cannibalism. If you are familiar with the Irish folk tune 'The Old Mirror,' you may notice some eerie similarities.
Hidden Vampire
While exploring the city of Saint-Denis, you may come across a peculiar sight - a vampire dressed in black, accompanied by two women. Most vampire stories in Red Dead Redemption 2 are easily missed, but this encounter can be triggered by following the vampire's henchman. The vampire will pursue you briefly, allowing you to ready your crossbow and earn the badge for slaying a vampire (30 XP).
Night Folk
An elderly man shares his regret over neglecting his wife due to his work. However, his tale takes a disturbing turn when he reveals that he is being tormented by a group of eerie stalkers. Keeping the old man safe in their collapsing hideout proves to be a challenging task, given their sheer numbers.
Ghostly Encounter
In the swamp lands of Bluewater Marsh, amidst a rainstorm, you encounter a lost woman and her loyal dog. Perched atop a rickety wooden home, the woman demands proof of your worthiness before she will trust you. Defeat the aggressive dogs and make your way to the woman, all while navigating her haywire electric fence (30 XP).
Murphy Brood Country
Traversing dark caves is already treacherous, but it becomes even more harrowing when a family of attackers blocks your path. The Murphy brood, known for terrorizing travelers, lurk within an underground passage. Engaging in a claustrophobic shootout, you must eliminate them all. Failure to do so will invoke the wrath of their dog, Sparky.
