Resident Evil: Death Island
Resident Evil: Death Island unites iconic protagonists Chris, Claire, Leon, Jill, and Rebecca, but what are the actors who voice them most excited to play again? We sat down with Resident Evil: Death Island voice actors Nicole Tompkins, Matt Mercer, and Stephanie Panisello to find out who their favorite Resident Evil characters are, excluding their own roles.
We already know that Mercer returns as Leon S. Kennedy after a break from the role, but both Tompkins and Panisello are new to the series – voicing Jill Valentine and other characters in Resident Evil Village, while Panisello has consistently played Claire Redfield. None the less, the actors express their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to portray these beloved Resident Evil characters once again.
“I love side characters. I just love small characters that had a moment,” Tompkins says when asked about her favorite Resident Evil characters. “Marvin, Kendo, any of those guys. Those are the ones that really stand out to me because they have such a cool moment, and they have such a cool story, and they’re so different.”
“I think a lot of it is just my love for the absurdly delicious villain Albert Wesker,” Mercer responds with a laugh. “I think the first time I played the original game and he turned to the camera and said ‘I’ll see you in hell,’ I was like, ‘Who said that? Who is that?’ Then I found out it was the main villain, it was incredible.”
“I would say Marvin,” Panisello answers. “I refuse to let his character die in my playthroughs. Whenever he pops up, I always have to save him. I don’t know, I love unsung heroes. I just love Marvin.”
“I love Leon, I know it’s weird,” she adds with a smile. “I love Leon, I just do. I love his character, I love his design, I love his seriousness, I just always have. I love Leon, I love Leon.”
